High Precision Harmonic Drive Strain Wave Gear
Product Description
Strain wave gearing (also known as harmonic drive gearing) is a type of mechanical gear system that uses a flexible spline with external teeth, which is deformed by a rotating elliptical plug to engage with the internal gear teeth of an outer spline.
Strain wave gearing has some advantages over traditional gearing systems such as helical or planetary gears, including:
High gear reduction ratios are possible in a small volume (a ratio from 30:1 up to 320:1 is possible in the same space in which planetary gears typically only produce a 10:1 ratio).
Disadvantages include a tendency for 'wind-up' (a torsional spring rate) in the low torque region.
Strain wave gearing is commonly used in robotics and aerospace. It can provide gear reduction but may also be used to increase rotational speed[citation needed], or for differential gearing.

FAQ
1. What is a harmonic drive box?
A harmonic drive box is a type of gear system that produces high reduction ratios in a compact size. It uses the mechanics of a flexible element deforming to transmit motion and achieve high precision and torque.
2. How does a harmonic drive gear box work?
A harmonic gear box works by using a circular spline, flexspline, and a wave generator. The wave generator deforms the flexspline into an elliptical shape, which then engages with the teeth of the circular spline at two points, providing a high reduction ratio through the difference in tooth count between the engaged elements.
3. Can a harmonic drive be backdriven?
Yes the harmonic drive gear can be driven back. By the way, this happens in every typical robotic cycle hundreds of times every day: Every time when the axis is in motion and slowed down rapidly, the load inertia on the gear output side drives back the gear (in a controlled manner, determined by motor and controller).
4. What does a harmonic drive do?
Hamornic drives are used in increasing the output torque in gears used in milling, in manufacturing, and in machines that use robotic arms.
Yes of course. We can customize a harmonic drive based on customer's specific requirements and drawing.
6. What's the biggest advantage of your products?
We can provide complete product series, and the qualty of our harmonic drive is stable. The most important is the highest cost-effective in China.
